Meet Recap

The score doesn’t touch the performances the boys had this past Saturday at the Ojo Rojo Invitational at Tumbleweed Park. Again, with very competitive teams, four of our guys set personal records. Rex Maxwell started things off for the freshmen running over a minute faster than his last meet on this course and turning in a 22.56 performance; while Kale Rusaw showed another impressive race for his first year career on cross country. The varsity squad then stepped up even more with Senior Bennett Bushman leading the team with a season record of 17.21. In addition, another season record was taken by Tyler Hill giving us a number 2 finish while Senior Joriel Cura ran a personal best placing third for the team. Not far behind were David Yang setting a personal record in the time of 20.09, and Kade Andrade setting a personal best with a 20.10 performance. Noah Cox rounded out the team’s success dominating once again for his team. The team continues this week as they prepare for yet another domination in Tempe on Saturday.

Blackhawks News · Black Hawk Swim & Dive Defeats Higley! Both Boys and Girls Teams have a 5-0 Record!

Girls and Boys Swim and Dive BOTH win against Higley High

Girls: WF 154, Higley 85       Boys:  WF 126, Higley 112
The win against Higley High for both the Girls and Boys Swim and Dive teams on Thursday brings both teams to  5-0 records.  This is an absolute first for the Girls team and the coaching staff could not be more proud of this team!  Highlights for Girls:  Freshman, Kate Thomas, had double wins in both of her individual events, again.  Sophomores, Kassity Dunn and Megan Browne, Senior, Emily Thomas, and junior, Meghan Hansen each had a win.  Huge swims by our girl relays too.  Our relays took 1st and 2nd in both the 200 Medley and 200 Free relays – swimmers included:  Emily Thomas, Kate Thomas, Megan Browne, Emery Milford, Kylie McLaughlin, Meghan Hayes, Alexandria Herring, Ella Bowman, Kate Koniecny, Kassity Dunn, Emma Robison, and Mariah Sanchez.  Zoe Koneiczny had a terrific 2nd place finish in the 100 breastroke.  Taylor Lubin did a great job in her tough 100 fly/500 free combo.  Alexandria Herring swam her best 100 free race of the season.
The Boys’ meet was even closer, but WFHS was able to win by attacking each race.  Highlights include:  Double wins for Miller Browne and Kyle Gunderson.  Gunnar Franz had a great win in 100 fly.  Leif Lake had 2 best times and a HUGE 3rd place finish in the 100 breast.  Freshman, Ty Raymond, had crucial finishes in both his 200 free and 100 back.  Harmen Brekke had a 2nd and 3rd place finish in his events.  Noah Breid swam to a 2nd and 3rd in his races as well.  A big shout out to the relay team of Ty Raymond, Andrew Raymond, Trey Southwell and Nathaniel Bodem for a much needed 3rd place finish in the 400 free relay.  Each one dropped time in order to touch out Higley by half a second!
Our next meet is Thursday, September 21 at 6 PM at HOME.  If you have never watched a swim meet – this is a fun team to watch!
